Kat's Crafty Creations

Taking some time to get a little crafty

Double the Projects, double the fun!

I’m currently working on two patterns at the same time. One is a gift for my husband, the other a winter coutdown from this site: http://meylah.com/thefrostedpumpkinstitchery/its-a-kawaii-winter-wonderland-countdown-sign-ups.

I am working it up on 28 count linen, which is the first time I have done any type of project on this fabric, and while I feel as though it’s not completely right, I do think that the pattern is so distractingly cute, that I don’t care.

Here are a couple pictures of my progress.

figuring out how to stitch on linen

It’s a lot less intimidating than it looks for those first timers, it says to count in 2’s, but I don’t think that I’ve been doing that. I’ve been working in a grid of 3, if that makes sense. I constantly wonder if I should have done a grid of 4, but then I think that it would have come out too big.

Day 1…

The beginnings of day two… I really love how everything works up on this fabric. I may have turned a corner and use this type of fabric for all my cross stitch patterns. I just feel like I really need to understand the correct way to work on it.

I find my pre-owl to be very cute, so while not a picture that necessarily needs sharing, I think to myself, why not!

and of course the finished owl… I would love to make this owl on it’s own. It’s super adorable

I would love to share pictures of the other project that I am working on, but I don’t want to run the risk of my husband taking the time to find my blog and then seeing what I’m making.

Thanks as always for popping in and checking out my post!

…From a simple thought, comes some craftiness

So this is where it started over a week ago and this is what has come from it.  I’m already, ready to take a break from cross stitching, but I will be starting a new pattern soon. I actually am stuck between two patterns that I want to complete.  One is something for my husband the other just something that I think that I would enjoy.  I haven’t got the materials for the project that I would like to work on just for me, so I am planning to take the night off tonight, then start working on my husbands project tonight.

…and the final product

Tardis slowness

The one thing I love about most of the needle arts I do is that it’s quick to see results. With cross stitch however, I feel as though it takes an eternity. I’ve been working on this Doctor Who Tardis for 3 days and I don’t feel as though I’ve made a dent in it yet.

Suffice to say, I carry on… Below are pictures of my (slow) progress.

I will be so very happy when I start working on the next, smaller project.

Cross Stitch

Somewhere along the way I decided that I wanted to pick up cross stitch again. It’s been a long time, and I love doing it, it’s just very time consuming so don’t do it often. Right now though I’m on a mental overload and I need to displace my energy. So, I went ahead and ordered some patterns (only) from Etsy and will be heading to the store hopefully tomorrow to get supplies. In the mean time I drew up a pattern for the one thing I really want to make since I feel like it should be relatively easy pattern to create. Here’s what I ended up with;

I actually don’t think it’s that bad! I can’t take all the credit though. My husband who is an avid Doctor Who fan (me too, mainly the latest, 3 renditions of the Dr), helped me plot out size and ‘fixed’ the roof. Can’t wait to get started on it. …and for those not sure what it is, it’s a Tardis.

Coffee Cup

Spent some time working on a new project today. I have a sudden interest in crocheting amigurumi, which lead to the purchase of a coffee/tea cup pattern. I picked this really pretty pink color that I love and haven’t had a chance to use yet.

I was very excited to get started on the pattern and got this far at work.

Then I came home and wrapped up. This is my final product and I hate it! Ugh. Well all I can say is practice, practice practice.
